At MMAP, our vocational curriculum offers an inclusive program designed to support our pupils' diverse learning needs. The Functional Skills in ICT Level 1 & 2 course combines practical experience with written assignments, equipping students with a well-rounded skill set. As the future job market becomes increasingly driven by technology, new roles are expected to emerge and evolve across various sectors.
Introducing Information and Communication Technology lessons in Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) can provide significant benefits, enhancing students' academic performance, personal growth, and future opportunities. These vocational qualifications offer Levels 1 and 2 learners the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary for careers in fields such as computing, technology, digital media, engineering, business, finance, art, and creativity—skills that are also applicable to everyday life. We believe that effective teaching of this subject will enhance students' understanding and readiness for the workforce.

KS4
We deliver Functional Skills qualification in Information and Communication Technology at KS4, with an ambitious curriculum tailored to meet the needs of all pupils while aligning with examination board requirements. This vocational area was chosen in response to feedback from employers, staff, and pupils, ensuring our students have the best opportunity to succeed and excel. After the completion of The Functional Skills in ICT Level 1 & 2 course students could progress to:
- GCSE in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- BTEC Level 2 or 3 qualifications for IT Users (ITQ)
- Level 2 qualifications in Digital Applications for IT Users DIDA
- Other related qualifications.
The ICT course designed to provide pupils with a broad knowledge and understanding of digital information technology. It also connects to other subjects taught in school, such as Maths, English, and Science, reinforcing their relevance in the digital world.

Assessment Information
To pass this qualification, the evidence that the learner presents for assessment
needs to demonstrate that they can meet all the skill standards for the
qualification. The coverage and range determine the standard required to achieve
the qualification.
Level 1 - One externally assessed assessment. 2 hours. 50 marks.
Tasks - Two sections in each assessment. Section A involves using the internet to find and select information. Section B involves working with numbers, creating a digital product and using communication tools. Each assessment has a theme

Assessment summary Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills qualifications in Information Communication Technology (ICT) at Levels 1 and 2 are externally assessed through a 2-hour test paper. Learners will be required to carry out a number of tasks using ICT systems (and appropriate resources) which is submitted to Pearson.
